The basics
What is Popovers?
Popovers is a service for arranging one-hour visits with warm, vetted companions. Think of it as the opposite of hiring a caregiver: the visit is about company, not tasks or chores. We're currently building our first companion network.
Where are you available?
We're rolling out market by market — we meet every companion ourselves before they take a single visit, which keeps growth deliberate. Sign up for the waitlist with your ZIP and we'll email you the moment a vetted companion is available in your area.
How long is a visit?
Every visit is one hour.
Can I book recurring visits, like every Tuesday?
Not yet — recurring bookings are planned. At launch, you'll request one visit at a time and can choose the same companion again when they're available.
Booking & payment
How far in advance do I need to book?
You can request any future opening shown in the booking flow. More lead time gives companions a better chance to review and accept your request.
When is my card charged?
For a single visit, we place an authorization hold when you request, and only charge it when a companion accepts. If nobody accepts within 24 hours, the hold is released.
How do bundles work?
Buy 5 or 10 visits upfront at a discounted rate. Credits never expire. When you book a visit, one credit is used.
What's the cancellation policy?
Free cancellation up to 48 hours before the visit. Inside 48 hours, the visit is non-refundable. If a companion cancels or no-shows on you, you get a full refund and a free visit credit.
Can I tip the companion?
Not through the app, for now. Our flat pricing is intentional — no one should feel like they got different quality because they tipped differently.
Safety & trust
How do you vet companions?
Before anyone can take a visit, they must pass a criminal background check, an interview with our team, and reference calls we make ourselves. If any one of those raises a concern, we don't approve them.
Who are your companions?
We're currently building our first companion network. We're looking for kind, reliable people with a natural way with older adults — students, second-career folks, retirees themselves, and community members. When booking opens, you'll see each approved person's photo, bio, and availability before you request a visit.
How do we communicate with the companion?
Include anything helpful in the notes when you request the visit. Once it is confirmed, both sides can see the visit details in their account. Direct messaging isn't available yet.
What if something goes wrong during a visit?
For an emergency, always call 911 first. For a non-emergency issue, contact Popovers support and we'll help with the booking.
For the older adult
Do they have to use the app?
Not at all. The person arranging the visit handles the account and booking, so the older adult doesn't have to touch a screen.
What if they're resistant at first?
Keep the invitation honest and low-pressure: explain who is coming, what they might do together, and that one visit doesn't commit them to another.
Can companions help with things around the house?
Light tasks, yes — making a cup of tea, reading the mail together, a short errand side by side. We aren't a cleaning or caregiving service, and companions won't do heavy work or handle money, passwords, or accounts.
